Hamilton Reunites with Angela Cullen for Ferrari Debut: “We’ve Gone Through a Lot”

Lewis Hamilton has shared heartfelt reflections about reuniting with his long-time former trainer Angela Cullen as he embarks on a new journey with Ferrari. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion described her return to his side as an exciting and meaningful step as he begins his first season in red.

Cullen had been a crucial part of Hamilton’s inner circle for years, having joined him in 2016 and played a key role throughout his dominant spell with Mercedes. Their partnership was well-known within the F1 paddock, marked by a close bond that went beyond the racetrack. However, the duo parted ways before the 2023 season, with Cullen stepping away from the sport to spend more time with her family and explore life beyond Formula 1.

Now, with Hamilton preparing to debut for Ferrari in what he calls a significant new chapter in his career, Cullen has rejoined him, a development Hamilton described as both “awesome” and deeply fulfilling.

“It’s always important to have a good foundation of people around you,” Hamilton said during pre-season testing in Bahrain. “I’ve generally had a solid support team over the years, and I’ve kept that going into this new season. But bringing Ange back on board has been really exciting. We’ve known each other for a long time and been through a lot together. The trust and understanding we share is rare.”

He added that Cullen’s time away was well spent, allowing her to reconnect with her family and travel. Her willingness to rejoin him for this new chapter, he said, felt special. “Asking her to come on this journey with me and her accepting was exciting. We’ve had an incredible month together already – it’s been really awesome,” Hamilton added with a smile.

Beyond Cullen’s return, Hamilton also spoke warmly about his transition to Ferrari, describing the atmosphere at the team as incredibly welcoming and inspiring. Donning the iconic red, he noted, feels natural and symbolic.

“I think red suits me,” he said light-heartedly. “We tried out some outfits last year, and it just felt right. But more than that, it’s an honour to be part of such a legendary team. Ferrari is passion, it’s history, it’s love – you can feel it from the team and the fans, the Tifosi.”

Hamilton praised Ferrari’s unique setup, where the road car and F1 divisions operate closely. “It’s all under one roof. When I walk to the wind tunnel, I meet people who may not be on the race team but are still part of this incredible family. It’s special to witness that unity and commitment,” he explained.

Reflecting on his first month with the Italian squad, Hamilton said he’s been made to feel right at home. “Everyone’s gone out of their way to welcome me. It’s honestly been the best month. It’s been intense – we’re all pushing hard – but this is the time to focus. Everyone’s committed, and I’m just doing everything I can to bring my best every single day.”

Hamilton’s new era with Ferrari begins not just with a change in colours, but with a renewed sense of purpose, familiar support, and an unwavering determination to succeed.
