Jos Verstappen Slams FIA Over ‘Sudden’ F1…read more
Verstappen, former Formula 1 driver and father of reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, has strongly criticized the FIA for implementing what he calls a “sudden and unnecessary” rule change ahead of the upcoming Grand Prix.
Speaking to Dutch media, Verstappen expressed frustration over the FIA’s decision, which reportedly affects power unit usage and track limits enforcement. “You can’t just change the rules halfway through a season without proper consultation,” Verstappen said. “This isn’t how you ensure fair competition — it’s how you create confusion.”
The FIA announced the adjustments last week, citing safety and competitive balance as their primary motivations. However, several teams and drivers have expressed concerns over the lack of clarity and timing of the rule updates.
“This kind of decision should involve the teams and drivers from the start,” Verstappen added. “Making sudden changes like this compromises preparation and strategy.”
Neither Red Bull Racing nor Max Verstappen has publicly commented on the matter, but the elder Verstappen’s remarks reflect growing unease within parts of the paddock. The FIA has yet to respond to his criticism.
