BREAKING: McLaren star delivers verdict over ‘CRAZY’ F1 switch After…read more

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has downplayed the idea of a future switch to IndyCar, describing the American series as “crazy” in the wake of his commanding Miami Grand Prix victory.

The 24-year-old Australian now leads the Formula 1 World Championship following his fourth win of the 2025 season — edging ahead of team-mate Lando Norris and reigning champion Max Verstappen. With momentum building behind his title bid, Piastri’s stock has never been higher.

In an interview with the *Indy Star*, Piastri was asked whether he would ever consider following the path of F1 legends like Fernando Alonso and Jacques Villeneuve by competing in IndyCar. His response was candid — and emphatic.

“Those guys are crazy,” Piastri said. “The speeds, the walls being that close — you have to put an incredible amount of trust in the drivers around you.”

He elaborated further on the dangers compared to F1.

“Crashing an F1 car already hurts at the speeds we’re doing. Add 20 to 30 miles per hour on top of that, and that’s the average speed some of those guys are doing. It’s not a question of whether it hurts  it’s how badly.”

Piastri’s latest win, his sixth in Formula 1, has also placed him one victory clear of Norris in the all-McLaren title race. With eyes now on the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, he’ll be looking to improve on the fourth-place finish he achieved there last year.

While crossovers between racing series remain a talking point in the motorsport world, Piastri made it clear that for now, his focus and comfort  firmly remain in Formula 1.
