Max Verstappen on Balancing Racing and Family Life: “It Works Well for Me”
Reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen recently opened up about how he manages the demanding life of a professional driver while embracing a new chapter as a father. Speaking ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, the Red Bull Racing star reflected on his evolving personal life and how his experience in the sport has helped him handle the balance.
Verstappen emphasized the importance of experience in maintaining high performance on the track. “Experience helps a lot,” he noted. “You know what to expect or what might come up during a race weekend.” The 26-year-old has now competed in over 180 Grands Prix and has developed a solid routine, allowing him to maintain consistency despite the pressures of the sport.
He also acknowledged the talent of the younger drivers entering Formula 1, offering praise for McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. Verstappen said he admires how quickly some of the newcomers adapt to the high-level competition, and he expressed genuine respect for their performances. “They’re doing a really good job,” he said, showing his sportsmanship and maturity.
Away from the racetrack, Verstappen recently welcomed his first child, a daughter named Lily, with long-time partner Kelly Piquet. The couple’s happy news made headlines just days before the race in Miami. Verstappen shared that he was grateful to have had a few days at home to spend quality time with his newborn before returning to the F1 circuit.
Despite the new responsibilities that come with fatherhood, Verstappen appears unfazed and committed to maintaining his usual pace. He mentioned that he hasn’t had to sacrifice one of his favorite pastimes — sim racing. Known for his passion for racing online in his free time, Verstappen humorously suggested that he might even share this hobby with his daughter in the future. “Maybe we’ll do that together,” he joked.
Overall, Verstappen appears to be enjoying the challenge of balancing his professional career with his personal life. With a supportive partner and a new motivation in his daughter, the Dutch driver seems to be in a strong place both mentally and emotionally, ready to continue his pursuit of success on and off the track
