Breaking; Helmut Marko Provides Update on Sebastian Vettel’s Potential Return to R…read more
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has poured cold water on immediate hopes of a Sebastian Vettel return to Formula 1 in a leadership role, saying that while the four-time world champion remains his ideal successor, no decision is imminent.
In a recent interview with Austrian outlet oe24, Marko addressed his earlier remarks naming Vettel as a potential heir to his long-held position overseeing Red Bull’s driver development program. Despite having previously suggested Vettel’s involvement was a natural fit for the future, the 82-year-old clarified that no transition is on the horizon.
> “That was an idea of mine, but it’s not ready for a decision; we’re still a long way from that,” Marko said. “I don’t know who wants to retire me at the end of the year. I certainly don’t plan to do that yet. If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Vettel, who retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2022, has consistently downplayed speculation about a return to the paddock in a full-time capacity. The 37-year-old recently revealed that his children have firmly opposed any comeback, preferring to keep their father at home after years of a demanding race calendar.
Nevertheless, Vettel has remained engaged with motorsport, most notably through his efforts to promote diversity and grassroots participation. His recent organization of an all-female karting event in Saudi Arabia garnered praise throughout the F1 community and was cited by Marko as one of the reasons Vettel would be a fitting successor.
> “Of course, it would be great if a guy like Sebastian could take over,” Marko told *Sky Germany* in April. “You have the side of the junior programme—he’s already working with girls here in the go-karts in Saudi Arabia.”
While Vettel’s return to Red Bull in an official role remains a distant prospect, his continued involvement in racing initiatives has kept his name in the conversation. For now, however, Red Bull’s advisory seat remains occupied, with Marko showing no signs of stepping aside.
Whether Vettel eventually transitions into a leadership position within Formula 1 remains to be seen—but if he does, it’s clear that Red Bull sees him as a perfect fit.
