Lewis Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari has encountered early turbulence following a contentious episode during the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion expressed visible frustration over Ferrari’s race strategy, particularly concerning delayed team orders that affected his on-track performance.

During the race, Hamilton, on fresher medium tyres, found himself behind teammate Charles Leclerc. Despite his apparent pace advantage, the team hesitated to instruct Leclerc to yield, prompting Hamilton to sarcastically suggest over team radio that the crew “have a tea-break while you’re at it.” Eventually allowed to pass, Hamilton couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity and was later asked to relinquish the position back to Leclerc as his tyre performance waned. He finished eighth, with Leclerc in seventh .

Post-race, Hamilton defended his candid remarks, stating he wouldn’t apologize for his competitive nature and desire to win. He emphasized the need for quicker strategic decisions, especially when competing against rivals like Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, who finished sixth .

This incidents has raised concerns about potential strains within the Ferrari camp. Former F1 team principal Guenther Steiner highlighted the unique pressures of driving for Ferrari, noting that the intense scrutiny from Italian media and fans can amplify internal tensions . Additionally, F1 CEO and former Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali warned that Hamilton would need to adapt to Ferrari’s distinct culture and mentality to ensure a harmonious relationship .

As the season progresses, Hamilton and Ferrari will need to address these challenges to foster a cohesive partnership and strive for championship success.
