Charles Leclerc Urges Unity with Lewis Hamilton Amid Ferrari’s Struggles

Charles Leclerc has made a clear appeal for unity between himself and his soon-to-be teammate Lewis Hamilton as Ferrari finds itself mired in a disappointing start to the 2025 Formula 1 season. The Monegasque driver is calling for a collaborative effort to help the team recover from what he has described as a nightmare situation.

Ferrari, one of the most iconic teams in Formula 1 history, has stumbled badly in the opening races of the year. They currently sit fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing the resurgent McLaren by a massive 152 points. This deficit has underscored a deeply troubling start for the Maranello-based squad, whose performance continues to lag behind their rivals.

At the recent Miami Grand Prix, the gap between Ferrari and McLaren became glaringly evident. McLaren’s race pace was on a different level, with the Woking-based team finishing a staggering 57 seconds ahead of Ferrari. Leclerc and Hamilton, despite their vast experience and talent, could only manage seventh and eighth-place finishes respectively—both even trailing the impressive Williams driver Alex Albon.

The SF-25, Ferrari’s 2025 challenger, has proven to be riddled with problems. From inconsistency in race pace to struggles with tyre degradation and balance, the car has prevented Ferrari’s drivers from fighting near the front of the grid. Leclerc acknowledged these limitations and admitted that both he and Hamilton will need to work together to turn things around.

“We definitely need to unite our efforts,” Leclerc told media, including RacingNews365. “We both agree this isn’t the kind of Sunday we want to experience. The performance just wasn’t there. Even if everything had gone perfectly, we might’ve only finished just ahead of Kimi [Antonelli], and that’s not where we want to be.”

Leclerc was clear that although Ferrari may have made some small strategic or operational errors that cost them a place or two, the root cause of their struggles lies in the car’s lack of competitiveness. “We need to separate the two issues,” he said. “Yes, we need to fix the smaller problems, but the bigger problem is the car itself. That’s where we’re losing six or seven positions, and we have to improve that.”

There is, however, a glimmer of optimism on the horizon. Leclerc hinted at incoming upgrades, though he was cautious about revealing too much. When asked whether Ferrari had any improvements planned, he responded with a smirk: “I don’t know when. I don’t think it’s official yet. I’ve probably already said more than I should. But yes, some things are coming, and I really hope they help us take a step forward.”

With the pressure mounting and expectations high, Leclerc is hopeful that the upcoming changes can bring Ferrari closer to the front of the grid. More importantly, he believes that only through unity with Hamilton—who joins the team full-time next season—can they bring Ferrari out of its current slump and back to its championship-contending form.
