Daniel Ricciardo Set for F1 Record D…read more

Formula 1 veteran Daniel Ricciardo is facing an unprecedented career low as he prepares for what could be the most significant demotion in the sport’s recent history. Reports indicate that the Australian driver may soon be dropped by RB (Visa Cash App RB) — formerly AlphaTauri — as the team eyes a mid-season replacement following a string of underwhelming performances in the 2025 season.

Ricciardo, once regarded as one of the sport’s most charismatic and talented drivers, returned to F1 full-time in 2024 in hopes of revitalizing his career and potentially reclaiming a seat at Red Bull Racing. However, the 35-year-old has struggled to keep pace with teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who has consistently outqualified and outraced him throughout the season.

Sources within the paddock suggest that Red Bull’s junior driver Liam Lawson is the frontrunner to take over Ricciardo’s seat as early as the next few races. Lawson impressed in a brief stand-in role during the 2023 season and has remained in close contention for a full-time F1 return.

If the move goes ahead, Ricciardo would become the first driver in modern F1 to be replaced twice mid-season by Red Bull-affiliated teams — a record no driver would want. His earlier dismissal in 2023 by McLaren, followed by a brief resurgence, now seems like a distant memory.

Despite his popularity and experience, Ricciardo’s F1 future appears increasingly uncertain. With few seats likely to be available for 2026 and competition from rising stars intensifying, his journey in the sport may be nearing its end.

Neither RB nor Ricciardo has confirmed the reports, but an official announcement could come before the next Grand Prix weekend. For fans of the Honey Badger, it could be a bittersweet farewell to one of the grid’s most beloved characters.
