McLaren Ace Denies Talks with Cadillac F1 Amid R…read more.
In the midst of swirling rumors linking him to a potential move, McLaren’s standout driver has spoken out to address recent reports suggesting contact with the Cadillac F1 project, set to join the grid in the coming seasons.
The speculation began earlier this week when several motorsport outlets hinted that the driver, who has enjoyed a strong run of form with McLaren, had been approached by representatives of the Andretti-Cadillac Formula 1 team. Cadillac, backed by the powerful General Motors brand, is still awaiting full approval from Formula 1 to join the championship, but has made clear its intentions to build a competitive outfit.
In a media session ahead of the upcoming Grand Prix weekend, the McLaren star firmly responded to the rumors.
“I’ve seen the stories, but I want to be clear—I haven’t had any formal talks with Cadillac or Andretti,” the driver said. “Of course, I respect what they’re trying to do. It’s great to see new names coming into the sport, and Cadillac is a big one, but my focus is 100% on McLaren.”
Despite the denial, the timing of the rumors has raised eyebrows, particularly with several driver contracts across the paddock set to expire at the end of the season. While McLaren has publicly expressed its desire to retain its current driver lineup, the growing interest from newcomers like Cadillac could complicate negotiations.
For now, the driver remains committed to the Woking-based team, which has seen a resurgence in performance this season. Whether Cadillac’s interest leads to formal discussions in the future remains to be seen, but the McLaren driver made it clear that, as of now, there is no deal or direct contact on the table.
