F1 Driver health update issued after car destroyed in….read more

Dutch racing driver Dirk Schouten has provided an update on his condition following a terrifying crash at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the opening round of the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. The 24-year-old was involved in a high-speed incident that saw his car slam into the barriers at approximately 150 kilometers per hour. The crash occurred during a chaotic moment in the race when multiple cars were closely fighting for position.

As the tightly packed field approached a corner, Schouten found himself with no space to maneuver. With limited grip and nowhere to go, his car was forced off the racing line and slid across the gravel at high speed. The car ultimately collided with the barriers in a violent impact. Despite the severity of the crash, Schouten was able to exit the wrecked vehicle with assistance from track marshals and the on-site medical team.

Shortly after the incident, Schouten was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. A video shared later showed him in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace, a precautionary measure following the crash. In the video, the Dutch driver offered reassurance about his recovery and recounted the frightening experience.

“When I ended up off the track, I was in the walls in no time. That was pretty scary,” Schouten said. “I’m doing pretty well, and I want to thank all the people who cared for me again.”

He also reflected on the moments leading up to the crash, expressing concern about the behavior of other drivers on track. “From my perspective, the cars that went off the track should have lifted earlier. There was no space at all,” he explained. “It is too risky to go through Blanchimont with five cars. The cars that go off the track simply cannot make the corner.”

Schouten noted that his knees were in significant pain following the incident and that he had trouble walking immediately afterward. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude toward the medical staff for their swift and professional care.

The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, in which the incident occurred, serves as a support series to the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship. The event at Spa-Francorchamps was held alongside the 6 Hours of Spa, a key race in the WEC calendar. This weekend’s WEC event also saw a third victory of the season for Ferrari, adding a highlight to an otherwise sobering day for motorsport fans.

Though shaken, Schouten’s update has offered relief to fans and the racing community, who feared the worst after the high-speed crash. His recovery will be closely followed as the young driver looks to return to racing once he ha

s fully healed.
