F1 Driver health update issued after car destroyed in….read more

Dutch motorsport driver Dirk Schouten has shared a positive update regarding his health after being involved in a serious crash during the first round of the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland at Spa-Francorchamps. The 24-year-old racer was part of a high-speed accident that took place in the early stages of the race, shocking spectators and fans alike. Schouten’s car suffered extensive damage after careening off the track and slamming into the barriers at an estimated speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

The incident unfolded during a particularly intense portion of the race when drivers were jostling for position in a tightly packed group. With the cars running close to each other and minimal room for error, Schouten found himself boxed in as the field approached a corner. Due to the lack of space and reduced grip, his vehicle was pushed off the optimal racing line and onto the gravel. Once off-track, the car continued sliding at high velocity, ultimately crashing into the barriers with considerable force.

Eyewitnesses described the crash as violent, with debris scattered and the car coming to a sudden stop against the protective barriers. Fortunately, race marshals and the medical response team were quick to arrive at the scene. They assisted Schouten as he exited the badly damaged car, visibly shaken but conscious. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary medical checks.

Later, a video surfaced showing Schouten in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace—a standard safety measure following such high-impact incidents. In the video, he expressed gratitude for the rapid assistance he received and reassured fans that he was recovering well. He reflected on the terrifying moments leading up to the crash, acknowledging how little control he had once the car left the track.

Despite the shocking nature of the accident, Schouten remained calm and composed in his message, thanking his supporters and the medical staff for their care. He confirmed that he was undergoing further evaluations but was hopeful about making a full recovery. The motorsport community has since rallied around him, sending messages of support and well-wishes as he continues to recuperate. His ability to walk away from such a severe crash has been seen as a testament to both modern racecar safety and the quick action of the trackside team.

While it remains unclear how long Schouten will need to recover, his update has brought relief to fans and teams concerned about his condition.
