Montoya Throws Curveball: Tells Perez to Snub Cadillac for…read more

In a twist few saw coming, former Formula 1 star Juan Pablo Montoya has made an unexpected plea to Sergio Perez: steer clear of the shiny allure of Cadillac’s F1 debut and plant your future with Alpine.

With Perez’s Red Bull contract nearing its expiration, rumors have been swirling about potential moves—among them, the ambitious Cadillac-Andretti entry set to debut in 2026. But Montoya, never one to shy away from bold opinions, has urged the Mexican driver to resist the hype.

“Cadillac is a wild card,” Montoya stated candidly. “It sounds great on paper, but F1 isn’t won by press releases. Alpine may not be flashy right now, but they’re grounded. If Checo wants longevity and competitiveness, he knows where to go.”

The Cadillac-Andretti project has generated buzz with its big names and American backing, but it remains a team without a track record in the sport. Alpine, on the other hand, has endured its fair share of turbulence, yet retains a strong technical foundation and F1 pedigree.

Perez, who’s maintained a diplomatic stance, recently said he’s “exploring all options” and is “focused on staying in a car that can fight.”

Montoya’s words may add pressure on Perez to choose legacy over novelty—especially with 2026’s sweeping regulation changes poised to level the playing field. With a decision expected soon, the F1 world waits to see if Perez will gamble on Cadillac’s new venture or bet on Alpine’s rebuild.
