This season, EFL analyst Ryan Dilks has selected his clubs to be demoted from the Championship.
With eight games remaining for the majority of teams in the second tier, the Championship season is almost ready to reach its closing stretch.
And with 24 points remaining to be gained, a lot can happen.
With 38 points, Sheffield Wednesday is now ranked 23rd in the Championship, just 10 points ahead of Sunderland, who occupy the mid-table spot.
Therefore, considering their recent performance, the Owls have a good chance of winning the league this year, especially considering how close the bottom half of the standings is.
Who is pictured being relegated from the Championship?
The four lowest teams in the Championship for the most of the season were Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday, QPR, and Huddersfield Town.
However, in the last few weeks, Sheffield Wednesday and QPR in particular have improved, drawing a plethora of clubs into the altercation.
The relegation picture is now very open; even Sunderland, who are currently in 12th place, won’t be counting on staying up just yet. Teams like Birmingham City, who are currently in 21st place with 39 points, Stoke City, and Plymouth, who are both in 19th and 18th place with 41 points apiece, are strongly contenders, as are Blackburn Rovers, who are in 17th place with 42 points, and Millwall, who are in 16th place with 43 points.
Swansea City is currently in 15th place, three points ahead of Millwall. With Rotherham United, currently 19 points down, Sheffield Wednesday under Danny Rohl, and Huddersfield Town in the drop zone, there appears to be a group of eight teams attempting to stay in the standings at the moment.
According to Ryan Dilks, the championship bottom three won’t alter.
EFL analyst Dilks made the following prediction about Championship relegation on the Second Tier Podcast:
“I doubt Millwall will be involved. They now seem to have the impetus to move clear of the bottom three, in my opinion. Though they are without a win in nine games, Blackburn is also a formidable opponent under John Eustace, so you would have assumed they would eventually register a few victories to maintain their safety. Now that Birmingham has taken the necessary steps to bring in Gary Rowett, I think everything should be fine. Despite Plymouth’s recent struggles, I have complete faith in their ability to select the best manager and retain enough skill in the team to keep them safe.
“And then, while I don’t have a lot of faith in Stoke, I believe that’s the most likely outcome because they appear to have a tendency of living dangerously and coming out on top. That leaves Huddersfield, Wednesday, and QPR. I’m going to stick with Wednesday and QPR because, well, I’ve stated them pretty much the entire season.
“Both have been playing well lately, but we’ve seen that happen a lot this season, so it won’t take much for that to change with these two.”
Sheffield Wednesday are currently in the lead.
Sheffield Wednesday is now riding high despite suffering back-to-back losses and trailing 6-0 at Ipswich Town at the half.
Despite two losses that may have taken some of the wind out of their sails, they have won five of the last eight Championship games, including four with clean sheets.
The Owls have a better run-in than the majority of the teams surrounding them, especially QPR, and they have appeared incredibly organized and motivated in recent weeks.
