Sebastian Vettel Honors Daniel Ricciardo’s Iconic Red Bull Comeback in Hungarian GP Throwback

Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has paid a heartfelt tribute to his former Red Bull Racing teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, by revisiting one of the Australian driver’s most memorable victories—his 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix triumph.

Vettel and Ricciardo were teammates during the 2014 season, marking a pivotal year for Red Bull Racing. Now retired, Vettel has been sharing highlights from his racing career and those of his peers on Instagram. His latest post features black-and-white throwback images from the chaotic race at the Hungaroring, where Ricciardo staged an unforgettable comeback to claim his second career win.

While Vettel had a disappointing race—spinning and finishing seventh after being caught out by a poorly timed safety car—he acknowledged Ricciardo’s impressive performance. “It wasn’t a great race,” Vettel wrote in his caption. “I spun, which was my mistake. Before that, I was unlucky with the safety car in the first stint… It’s good for Daniel that he won today, I’m happy for him.”

The Hungarian GP saw Ricciardo, then just 25, overtake both Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in the closing laps to take the win for Red Bull. His fearless driving and late-race moves were a defining moment in his career and helped establish him as one of the sport’s top talents.

Though Ricciardo was dropped from the Red Bull program in 2024, his impact and popularity remain strong among fans and fellow drivers. Vettel’s tribute highlights the mutual respect between the two drivers and commemorates a standout moment in Ricciardo’s F1 journey.

Fans reacted warmly to Vettel’s post, appreciating the nostalgic look back at a race that showcased both drivers’ resilience and skill during their time with Red Bull Racing.
