FIA Announces Mandatory Rule for All F1 Teams A…read more
In a significant move ahead of the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, the FIA has announced a mandatory regulation that will apply to all Formula 1 teams this weekend. The governing body has confirmed that all teams must install and run a standardized tyre temperature monitoring system on all four wheels during every on-track session — including practice, qualifying, and the race itself.
This regulation comes amid growing concerns over tyre safety and performance inconsistencies seen earlier in the season. The FIA stated that the new system aims to enhance driver safety, improve data accuracy, and help enforce minimum tyre temperature guidelines more consistently across the grid.
“Following extensive consultation with teams and tyre supplier Pirelli, the FIA has decided to implement this rule as a precautionary measure to prevent unsafe tyre usage and to ensure fairness in temperature reporting,” read the official statement.
The new sensors will transmit live temperature data to both the FIA and teams, ensuring transparency and quick decision-making if a tyre exceeds the allowed parameters. Any team found operating with non-compliant temperatures or tampering with the system could face severe penalties, including disqualification from qualifying sessions or race results.
While some teams have expressed concerns over the last-minute nature of the rule, others believe it is a necessary step toward improved safety standards. Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff noted, “It’s a challenge to adapt so quickly, but we understand the FIA’s position. Safety must always come first.”
With the competitive field already tight, this new rule could influence tyre strategy and performance significantly at the high-speed, technical Imola circuit. All eyes will be on how teams adapt when the cars hit the track for Friday practice.
