Ferrari Has Officially Announced Charles Leclerc’s Absence from the Emilia Grand Prix Due to… Read More
Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc was notably absent from Thursday’s media duties ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola due to illness. The team announced that Leclerc was feeling unwell and would be staying away from the track for the day to rest and recover. Ferrari expressed optimism that the Monegasque driver would be well enough to participate in Friday’s practice sessions, reassuring fans that he is expected to return to the car soon.
Leclerc’s absence comes at a significant moment in the 2025 F1 season. Currently fifth in the Drivers’ Championship standings with 58 points, he has yet to claim a race victory this year. His most successful result so far has been a third-place podium finish at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton, who is racing at Imola for the first time with the team, holds seventh place in the standings with 41 points. Like Leclerc, Hamilton is also still chasing his first podium of the season.
Ferrari’s overall performance this season has been below expectations. The team has accumulated 94 points in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing behind leading teams like Red Bull, Mercedes, and McLaren. Technical issues and strategic misjudgments have continued to hamper the Scuderia’s efforts to challenge for wins and championship contention.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix itself is also under scrutiny regarding its long-term future in Formula 1. With the sport expanding globally, F1 President Stefano Domenicali has raised concerns about the sustainability of hosting two races in Italy—Imola and Monza. While he acknowledged Italy’s historic importance to Formula 1, he hinted that tough decisions may be required in the near future.
Leclerc’s current health concern is not the first time he has dealt with physical setbacks. During the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he suffered from food poisoning which nearly prevented him from taking part in the weekend’s sessions. Despite being in poor condition, he managed to compete and even shared the track during practice with his brother Arthur Leclerc, making for a memorable family moment.
As the Imola race weekend approaches, Ferrari fans and the team remain hopeful that Leclerc will make a full recovery in time to compete. His presence is vital not only for his own title aspirations but also for Ferrari’s hopes in the Constructors’ Championship. The upcoming practice sessions will be key in evaluating his fitness and the team’s potential performance for the Grand Prix.
