FIA Clears McLaren and Ferrari Cars Following Post-Race Inspection Ah…read more

Ahead of the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, the FIA has released the results of a detailed inspection involving McLaren and Ferrari’s Formula 1 cars. The inspection, part of standard post-race procedures, followed the Miami Grand Prix—an event that saw McLaren’s Oscar Piastri claim a commanding victory, further solidifying his lead in the 2025 drivers’ championship standings.

As is customary, the FIA randomly selects cars for post-race checks to ensure full compliance with the strict technical regulations governing the sport. After the Miami race, the cars of Oscar Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc were chosen for these inspections.

Piastri’s McLaren underwent scrutiny specifically on the wheel bodywork assemblies. According to an official FIA statement, “All inspected components were found to be in conformance with the 2025 Formula 1 Technical Regulations.” The results confirm that Piastri’s car was fully compliant, marking a clean sheet for the Australian driver and his team following a weekend of stellar performance.

Leclerc’s Ferrari, meanwhile, was also subjected to rigorous examination. Officials inspected the steering wheel assembly, the clutch operating device, and the car’s electronic submission systems. The governing body concluded that all components adhered to the regulatory framework, giving Ferrari the all-clear this time around.

This inspection result will come as a relief to the Scuderia Ferrari team, especially after their earlier troubles this season. At the Chinese Grand Prix, Leclerc’s car was found to be underweight during a post-race inspection, leading to a dramatic disqualification that derailed his points tally. His teammate Lewis Hamilton faced a similar fate in Shanghai after excessive wear was found on the skid block of his Ferrari, adding to the team’s woes.

These incidents cast a shadow over Ferrari’s early-season ambitions, particularly their hopes of mounting a serious title challenge. The duo of Leclerc and Hamilton had entered the 2025 season with expectations of fighting for both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. However, a combination of inconsistent performances and regulatory setbacks has seen those ambitions falter.

With six rounds completed in the season, McLaren has surged ahead in the constructors’ standings, holding a formidable 152-point lead over Ferrari. This margin suggests a dominant start for the Woking-based team, who are not only outperforming Ferrari in pace but are also showing greater reliability and consistency in staying within the bounds of technical regulations.

As the F1 circus rolls into Imola, Ferrari will be under pressure to close the gap and restore their competitive edge in front of their home crowd. The clean bill of health for their car post-Miami is a step in the right direction, but the team will need more than regulatory compliance to claw back McLaren’s growing advantage.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix promises to be a crucial weekend, especially for Ferrari, as they aim to regroup and salvage their season before the title fight becomes a one-horse race.
