FIA Issues Statement as Mercedes F1 Car Selected for Routine Inspection at Imola Grand Prix
The FIA has officially announced that one of Mercedes’ Formula 1 cars has been selected for the standard car presentation procedure ahead of the 2025 Imola Grand Prix.
George Russell’s W16 was randomly chosen alongside Esteban Ocon’s Haas and Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin as part of the FIA’s routine checks. This process takes place at every race weekend, giving media personnel and team representatives a closer look at specific cars.
Each team is required to present one car outside the garage area during race weekends. If only one car has received recent upgrades, that car must be displayed. In this case, Mercedes has brought updates to Imola, making Russell’s car the one chosen for presentation.
This procedure is entirely routine and not related to any investigation. A technical delegate will oversee the display, but neither Russell nor the team is under scrutiny. The same applies to Ocon and Stroll.
Mercedes arrive at Imola as strong contenders in the constructors’ championship, currently second behind McLaren. Russell has enjoyed a strong start to the season with four podium finishes from the first six races, placing him fourth in the drivers’ standings. Rookie teammate Kimi Antonelli has also impressed, currently ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the championship.
Track action begins Friday with the first two practice sessions at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
