FIA Enforces Late PENALTY for Red Bull’s Yu..read more
In a dramatic turn of events at the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the FIA has mandated that Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda commence the race from the pitlane. This decision follows a severe crash during the qualifying session, where Tsunoda’s car flipped after a high-speed incident at the Villeneuve chicane. Despite the alarming nature of the crash, Tsunoda emerged unscathed and was cleared medically.
The crash inflicted extensive damage on Tsunoda’s RB21, necessitating significant repairs. Red Bull replaced multiple components, including the internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H, MGU-K, energy store, control electronics, and exhaust system. Additionally, the survival cell was changed. These alterations involved the use of components with different specifications, prompting the FIA to enforce a pitlane start in accordance with Article 40.9(a) of the 2025 Formula 1 Sporting Regulations.
Initially set to start from the back of the grid due to not setting a qualifying time, Tsunoda now faces the added challenge of a pitlane start. This development underscores the unpredictable nature of Formula 1 racing and the stringent regulations that govern it.
Meanwhile, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri secured pole position with a lap time of 1:14.670, narrowly edging out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 0.034 seconds. Mercedes’ George Russell and McLaren’s Lando Norris will start third and fourth, respectively. ([Reuters][6])
The race at Imola is set to commence at 14:00 BST, promising an exciting contest as teams and drivers navigate the challenges of this historic circuit.
