FIA Confirms 20-Place Grid Penalty for F1 Star Y..read more
Red Bull Racing’s Yuki Tsunoda has been handed a 20-place grid penalty for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, following a significant crash during qualifying at Imola. The Japanese driver lost control at high speed, resulting in his car flipping and sustaining substantial damage. Fortunately, Tsunoda emerged unscathed from the incident.
In the aftermath, Red Bull was compelled to replace several components on Tsunoda’s Honda power unit, including the control electronics and energy store. These changes, made under parc fermé conditions, triggered two separate 10-place grid penalties, totaling a 20-place drop. However, since Tsunoda did not set a qualifying time and was already slated to start 20th, the penalties effectively position him at the back of the grid. Additionally, due to the extensive repairs, he will commence the race from the pit lane .
This development adds to Red Bull’s challenges at Imola, as they aim to recover from a difficult qualifying session. Tsunoda’s teammate, Max Verstappen, secured a front-row start, narrowly missing pole position to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri by just 0.034 seconds .
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix promises an exciting contest as teams and drivers navigate the historic and demanding Imola circuit.
