Lewis Hamilton ROARS Back as Arch Nemesis Remains Pointless

Lewis Hamilton delivered a sensational performance at the 2025 Imola Grand Prix, roaring back from a disappointing 12th-place qualifying to finish fourth—his best result yet in Ferrari red. The seven-time world champion’s storming drive saw him leapfrog Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli in the drivers’ standings and close the gap to Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc to just eight points.

Hamilton’s resurgence marks a turning point in what has been a challenging season for the Brit, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, as the F1 calendar heads into its summer stretch.

At the front of the pack, Max Verstappen reignited his push for a fifth consecutive world title, mastering the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit to take the win and narrow the gap to championship leader Oscar Piastri to 22 points. Piastri, along with teammate Lando Norris, continues to dominate for McLaren, who now hold a commanding 132-point lead in the constructors’ standings.

But while Hamilton was climbing the ranks, long-time rival Fernando Alonso was enduring yet another painful weekend. The Aston Martin veteran remains one of five drivers yet to score a single point this season. Despite a brilliant qualifying that put him fifth on the grid, a poorly timed virtual safety car undid his race strategy, and he crossed the line in 11th—his third such finish this season.

F1 Drivers’ Standings After 2025 Imola Grand Prix:

1. Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 146 points

2. Lando Norris | McLaren | 133

3. Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 124

4. George Russell | Mercedes | 99

5. Charles Leclerc | Ferrari | 61

6. Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari | 53

7. Kimi Antonelli | Mercedes | 48

8. Alex Albon | Williams | 40

9. Esteban Ocon | Haas | 14

10. Lance Stroll | Aston Martin | 14

F1 Constructors’ Standings After 2025 Imola Grand Prix:

1. McLaren | 279 points

2. Mercedes | 147

3. Red Bull | 131

4. Ferrari | 114

5. Williams | 51

In a key regulation change, the 2025 season no longer awards a point for fastest lap. The rule, introduced in 2019, was dropped after years of strategic manipulation, including dramatic moments like Daniel Ricciardo’s fastest lap in his final F1 race last season—despite finishing last—to deny Norris an extra point and support Verstappen’s title run.

As the season heats up, with rivalries rekindled and standings tightening, the battle for both driver and constructor glory promises even more drama in the weeks ahead.
