F1 2025 Monaco Grand Prix: Complete Schedule, Broadcast..read more

Following a high-intensity race weekend in Imola, the Formula 1 calendar marches on to one of its crown jewel events—the Monaco Grand Prix. Serving as the second round of a grueling triple-header, the upcoming race in Monte Carlo promises high drama and elite racing in the tight, twisting streets of this world-famous venue.

Set against the glitz and glamour of Monaco, this iconic Grand Prix is not just another stop on the calendar—it’s a true test of skill, strategy, and precision. Known for its narrow layout and virtually nonexistent overtaking zones, the Circuit de Monaco challenges drivers and teams in ways few other tracks can. With minimal margin for error and the constant threat of barriers, the pressure is on from the very first session.

The Monaco GP weekend begins on Friday, May 23, with two Free Practice sessions. Free Practice 1 is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM (WAT), offering teams the first chance to gather crucial data. Later in the day, Free Practice 2 takes place at 4:00 PM, giving drivers further time to get to grips with the tricky street circuit.

Action resumes on Saturday, May 24, with Free Practice 3 at 11:30 AM, followed by the crucial Qualifying session at 3:00 PM. Given how difficult overtaking is around Monaco, a good qualifying result is often the key to success in Sunday’s race.

The main event—the Monaco Grand Prix—will be held on Sunday, May 25. Festivities begin with the traditional driver parade at 12:00 PM, offering fans a chance to cheer on their favorite stars up close. The race itself is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM (WAT) and will feature 78 laps of intense, close-quarters racing.

This year brings an added strategic twist, as a mandatory two-stop strategy has been introduced. Each driver must use at least two different tyre compounds, a change that could introduce more variability in race outcomes. With pit stops at a premium and overtaking so limited, teams must strike the perfect balance between tire management and aggressive positioning.

How to Watch in Nigeria

Recap: Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Penalties

Last weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix brought not just on-track excitement but also a flurry of penalties that influenced race outcomes and qualifying grids.

One of the more notable incidents involved Franco Colapinto of Alpine, who spun out and crashed during Q1, triggering a red flag. Though he advanced to Q2, damage to his car ended his day early. The stewards later handed him a one-place grid penalty for the race.

Oliver Bearman of Haas was another driver affected by Colapinto’s crash. As the red flag flew, Bearman had just begun a flying lap, which was subsequently invalidated. He was thus unable to move forward and had to start from 19th position.

Charles Leclerc, racing for Ferrari, was asked by his team to return a position to Alex Albon after an incident that saw Albon forced off-track. While Leclerc was clearly frustrated by the decision—as evidenced by his team radio—he complied and fell back to sixth place. Since the position was voluntarily returned, no formal penalty was imposed.

As the F1 circus rolls into Monaco, the pressure on drivers to stay within the rules while performing at their best will be greater than ever. A mistake here can be unforgiving, and penalties could be costly. Teams will be focused on delivering flawless execution in one of the most prestigious races on the calendar.
