Max Verstappen Set for FIA Media Return at Monaco GP to rejoin… read more

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is set to rejoin the FIA’s official media proceedings ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, marking his return to press conference duties after a brief hiatus. The Dutch driver will appear in the Thursday, May 22, FIA press conference alongside Gabriel Bortoleto of Sauber and Alex Albon from Williams. This session precedes the weekend’s racing at the iconic Monte Carlo street circuit.

The FIA has confirmed Verstappen’s participation in the Thursday afternoon press conference, marking the first time he will face media questions in a formal setting since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix earlier in the season. Before that, his last official FIA media appearance was during the season opener in Australia. Verstappen’s absence from recent press events, including the Miami Grand Prix, drew attention from fans, though it was later revealed he was on paternity leave, celebrating the birth of his first child with partner Kelly Piquet.

Earlier on Thursday, a separate morning press conference will feature Isack Hadjar, Pierre Gasly, and Monaco’s home favorite Charles Leclerc. Leclerc, who finally triumphed in his home race last season to end what many called the “Monaco curse,” will aim to recapture the magic this year. However, Ferrari’s slow start to the 2025 season casts doubt on a repeat of his 2024 heroics.

In contrast, Verstappen remains a strong contender for victory in Monaco, having displayed impressive form at the previous round in Imola, where he claimed his second win of the season. A third Monaco Grand Prix win could be within reach for the Red Bull driver if his pace continues in Monte Carlo.

Verstappen’s return to FIA media duties comes after a turbulent history with press conferences in the past. Last season, he faced criticism and even disciplinary action for his conduct during these events. Notably, he received a warning following the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix for using inappropriate language while describing the state of his car. With the FIA keeping a close eye on driver behavior during official events, Verstappen is expected to tread carefully as he resumes his media obligations.

Despite the controversies, Verstappen’s competitive spirit and focus on racing remain unquestioned. As the four-time world champion prepares for one of the most prestigious races on the F1 calendar, fans and media
