Verstappen to Rejoin FIA Media Duties Ahead of Monaco Grand Prix
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will make his return to the FIA press conference on Thursday, May 22, ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. This marks the Dutch driver’s first official media appearance since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in March.
The FIA has confirmed Verstappen will take part in the Thursday afternoon session alongside Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber) and Alex Albon (Williams). The morning conference will feature Isack Hadjar, Pierre Gasly, and Monaco’s own Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen had been absent from recent press engagements, most notably missing the Miami Grand Prix media day while celebrating the birth of his first child with partner Kelly Piquet. His absence had drawn attention from fans, especially given past controversies involving his comments during media events. He was previously reprimanded for using inappropriate language to describe his Red Bull car following the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
Returning to the spotlight, Verstappen will be expected to tread carefully in Thursday’s session. On the track, however, he arrives in strong form after clinching victory in Imola — his second win of the season. A win in Monaco would be his third at the prestigious street circuit and a significant boost in his 2025 title campaign.
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc will be aiming to defend his historic 2024 home victory, though Ferrari’s lackluster start to the season has tempered expectations.
With the Monaco Grand Prix widely regarded as one of Formula 1’s crown jewel events, Verstappen’s return to media duties adds to the anticipation for what promises to be a thrilling weekend in Monte Carlo.
