McLaren Cleared by FIA Ahead of Monaco Grand Prix After Miami Investigations
As Formula 1 heads to Monaco, McLaren can breathe a sigh of relief after the FIA wrapped up its investigations into recent incidents involving the team, confirming no rule violations ahead of this weekend’s race.
Tool Incident in Miami Ends with Warning
During the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Lando Norris reported an unusual issue in practice—tools had been mistakenly left inside his cockpit. Norris promptly returned to the pits, where team mechanics removed a flashlight and other items.
The FIA launched an investigation under Article 34.14 c) of the sporting regulations, which governs the release of cars in safe conditions. While McLaren was found to have released the car unsafely, the FIA acknowledged the team’s quick response and the fact that no harm occurred, issuing only a formal warning.
Brake System Examination Passes FIA Checks
Oscar Piastri’s car also came under scrutiny after his strong Miami showing, with the FIA inspecting the MCL39’s rear brake system. Following a detailed examination, the FIA confirmed that all components complied with the technical regulations, closing the case without any penalty.
Rival Concerns Over McLaren’s Performance
McLaren’s recent form has raised eyebrows among rival teams. Red Bull’s Christian Horner questioned whether McLaren’s brake setup may be aiding tyre performance—though no official protest has been filed. McLaren CEO Zak Brown responded by encouraging teams to come forward with formal complaints if they suspect anything illegal, reaffirming McLaren’s transparency and compliance.
Focus Shifts to Monaco
With the FIA investigations behind them and no penalties issued, McLaren is set to focus fully on the Monaco Grand Prix. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are looking to build on recent momentum as the team aims for another strong weekend on the streets of Monte Carlo.
