Reports from multiple sources on Saturday indicate that Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk will be out of action for four to six weeks due to a sprained MCL in his right knee.
Monk, who has been a frontrunner for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award, sustained the injury during a collision with Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks in the first quarter of the Kings’ 107-103 defeat on Friday night.
Given the timing of the injury, Monk is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season. For him to have a chance of returning this season, Sacramento would likely need to progress to the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Currently holding the eighth position in the Western Conference with a record of 42-31, the Kings are trailing the Mavericks by two games for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the top six. Sacramento recently suffered a two-game series sweep by Dallas on their home court.
This marks the second significant injury setback for the Kings within two days. Starting shooting guard Kevin Huerter is set to undergo season-ending left shoulder surgery following an injury sustained on March 18 against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Malik Monk, 26, has been enjoying career-best averages of 15.4 points and 5.1 assists per game in 72 appearances off the bench this season, his second with the Sacramento Kings. He has connected on 148 three-pointers while shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc.
Throughout his seven-year NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets (2017-21), Los Angeles Lakers (2021-22), and Kings, Monk has maintained career averages of 11.6 points and 2.8 assists, sinking a total of 799 three-pointers.
