Lewis Hamilton: McLaren Duo Norris and Piastri Facing ‘Unimaginable’ Pressure in Title Battle
Lewis Hamilton has shed light on the high-stakes title fight between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, saying the pressure they’re under is “unimaginable” as they chase their first Formula 1 World Championship.
McLaren has lived up to its 2025 pre-season hype, currently leading both the Constructors’ Championship and occupying the top two spots in the Drivers’ standings. But in a twist to many predictions, it’s Piastri — not Norris — who leads the pack.
The Australian holds a 13-point advantage over Norris, having taken four Grand Prix victories and three pole positions so far. Norris, while competitive, has just one race win, one pole, and a Sprint victory to his name.
Both drivers have had missteps: Piastri ran off the track at the Australian Grand Prix and misjudged a challenge from Max Verstappen in Imola. Norris has admitted to underwhelming Q3 performances and on-track errors that have cost him valuable points.
Despite their flaws, the consistency and talent of both drivers have impressed Hamilton, who debuted with McLaren in 2007 and knows the weight of such expectations firsthand.
“It’s great to see McLaren performing so well — it’s where my F1 journey began,” Hamilton said during a media session that included PlanetF1.com.
“To see both Lando and Oscar so evenly matched, both performing at a high level it’s incredible. The pressure they’re under is something most people couldn’t even imagine unless they’ve been through it themselves.
“Piastri especially has been doing a phenomenal job he’s been consistent, sharp in qualifying, and ticking every box needed to become a World Champion.”
As McLaren continues its charge and internal rivalry intensifies, the question remains: who will come out on top in this thrilling championship showdown — the calm and clinical Piastri, or the determined and experienced Norris?
