Lewis Hamilton Criticizes FIA Over Monaco Grand Prix Disqualification F…read more

Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has openly criticized the FIA following his controversial disqualification from the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. The Ferrari driver was stripped of his third-place finish after post-race scrutineering revealed a technical infringement related to the floor plank thickness on his SF-25.

Hamilton, visibly frustrated during the post-race media session, called the FIA’s decision “inconsistent and disappointing,” questioning the timing and motive behind the ruling. “It’s heartbreaking to cross the line, celebrate with the team, and then have it all taken away over something that had zero performance gain,” he said. “We’ve seen similar situations in the past that didn’t result in such harsh penalties. It feels selective.”

The FIA released a statement confirming the disqualification was due to a breach of Article 3.5.9 of the technical regulations, which mandates a minimum thickness of the wooden plank underneath the car. Ferrari claimed the wear was due to unexpected track conditions and not an intentional design flaw.

Hamilton, who is in the midst of his first season with Ferrari after leaving Mercedes, was having one of his strongest weekends of the year. His podium would have marked back-to-back top-three finishes and a crucial points boost in the championship standings.

“This sport needs clarity and fairness,” Hamilton added. “We work incredibly hard and to have results overturned like this, without any real warning or consistency, damages the integrity of the championship.”

Fans and pundits have expressed mixed reactions, with some supporting the FIA’s commitment to enforcing regulations, while others echo Hamilton’s call for more transparency and consistency in rule enforcement.

The disqualification drops Hamilton to seventh in the drivers’ standings, intensifying the battle heading into the Canadian Grand Prix next month.
