James Scott, a freshman forward from Charleston, moves to Louisville.

Pat Kelsey secures his second commitment as the head coach of the University of Louisville men’s basketball program, and it’s another player from his previous team, Charleston.

Freshman forward James Scott, who recently entered the transfer portal on Saturday afternoon, has swiftly pledged his commitment to the Cardinals. Standing at 6 feet 11 inches, Scott appeared in 35 games this past season, averaging 5.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, boasting an impressive 79 percent field goal rate.

Additionally, Kelsey has also secured the commitment of Charleston guard Reyne Smith, who made his commitment on Saturday. Smith, a 6-foot-2 guard from Ulverstone, Australia, started 89 games in three seasons with the Cougars and holds a career scoring average of 11.9 points per game.

Scott’s notable achievements include being named Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week twice in December and earning a spot on the CAA All-Rookie team after a breakout rookie season. Hailing from Fayetteville, N.C., Scott was recognized as a three-star prospect out of E.E. Smith High School and was lauded as the Most Improved Player by the Fayetteville Observer after the 2021-22 season.

Describing Scott’s potential, Kelsey likened him to a young Marcus Camby, emphasizing his growth potential and versatile skill set. Notably, Scott garnered attention from an NBA scout during the NCAA Tournament, who praised his length, athleticism, and footwork, highlighting his potential as a player capable of guarding multiple positions at the next level.
