Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has revealed that Max Verstappen has issued a formal apology following a controversial radio outburst during last weekend’s Grand Prix.
The reigning World Champion came under fire after an emotional and expletive-laden team radio message was broadcast during the final laps of the race. Verstappen, frustrated by a perceived strategy error and a mechanical issue that cost him a podium finish, lashed out at his race engineer in what many described as an uncharacteristic moment of anger.
In a statement released Monday morning, Horner addressed the situation, saying: “Max is an incredibly passionate driver who always wants to win. After reviewing the race and having a conversation with the team, he acknowledged that his comments were made in the heat of the moment. He has since apologized to his engineer and the entire crew.”
Verstappen himself also commented, stating: “I regret how I expressed myself over the radio. It wasn’t fair to the team, especially given how hard they work. We win together and we lose together.”
This incident has sparked a broader conversation about driver conduct and the pressures of high-level racing. However, Red Bull insists the matter is now closed internally and remains confident in the strength of their team dynamics.
The Dutch driver currently sits second in the drivers’ standings, just behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, with the next race set for Montreal.
