FIA Confirms Additional Penalty as Max Verstappen Ta…read more.

In a major development following last weekend’s dramatic Grand Prix, the FIA has announced further disciplinary action against Max Verstappen after an on-track incident that sparked widespread debate. The Red Bull Racing star has openly admitted fault, drawing both criticism and praise for his honesty.

The incident occurred during Lap 42 of the race when Verstappen made an aggressive move on Mercedes driver George Russell, leading to minor contact and damage to both cars. Although Verstappen initially escaped with only a five-second time penalty, the FIA has now reviewed additional footage and team radio exchanges, concluding that the maneuver was “overly forceful and unsportsmanlike.”

In a statement released Tuesday, the FIA confirmed Verstappen would receive a three-place grid penalty for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. “While competitive spirit is part of Formula 1, the safety of drivers remains our priority,” the statement read.

Verstappen responded to the decision with humility, saying, “I accept the FIA’s ruling. In the heat of competition, I pushed too hard and misjudged the space. I’ve spoken to George and the team, and I take full responsibility for what happened.”

This marks a rare moment of public accountability from the defending World Champion, whose aggressive driving style has long been both celebrated and criticized.

With the title race heating up, the added penalty could prove costly for Verstappen, who is currently in a tight battle with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for the championship lead.
