F1 News Today: Lewis Hamilton hit by devastating  as late FIA penalty set for ne… read more

Lewis Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari has not gone according to plan, as doubts about his form and fit within the team continue to grow. Once a dominant force at Mercedes, Hamilton has struggled to replicate his past success since making the high-profile switch to Ferrari. The British driver has yet to finish on the podium in a main Grand Prix this season, managing only a Sprint Race win in China, while his teammate Charles Leclerc has already secured multiple podiums.

Observers have noted that Hamilton seems to be lacking his usual spark and speed. Some critics suggest that he appears disconnected, unable to fully adapt to Ferrari’s machinery or communicate effectively with his engineers. His performance has raised concerns about whether he can compete at the top level in a new environment that clearly challenges him more than expected.

At a recent race weekend, Hamilton’s frustrations were on full display. After being overtaken by slower cars and finishing outside the podium places, he openly apologized to his team for underperforming. Later, it was revealed that floor damage to his Ferrari had compromised his performance, but the damage control did little to quiet the questions surrounding his form.

Meanwhile, as Hamilton wrestles with his adaptation to Ferrari, another F1 development made headlines: a delayed penalty handed down by the FIA. Contrary to initial assumptions, the penalty is not directed at Hamilton but at a fellow driver — Valtteri Bottas. Bottas, who left Alfa Romeo (Sauber) last season, is now set to receive a five-place grid penalty at his next race weekend, stemming from a previous on-track incident that had not been fully addressed at the time.

This delayed punishment could significantly impact Bottas’ potential return to the grid, especially as he’s been linked with several open seats for the coming season. The penalty also comes with additional penalty points, which may further complicate his situation as teams consider their options.

For Hamilton, the path forward is becoming increasingly uncertain. With upcoming races quickly approaching, he must find a way to settle into his new car and rediscover the consistency that once made him a seven-time world champion. Ferrari, on the other hand, needs to respond swiftly to mounting pressure, both technically and strategically, if they hope to help their star driver turn things around.

As both Hamilton and Bottas face significant challenges ahead, the next few race weekends will be crucial in shaping the trajectory of their respective F1 future
