NEW YORK Alex Verdugo hit a home run, Carlos Rodón gave up two unearned runs in six and a half innings, and the New York Yankees defeated the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Tuesday night to match their best 12-game start.
With its fourth straight victory, New York raised its record to a major league-best 10-2, matching the Yankees’ starts from 1922, 1949, and 2003—all pennant-winning squads. For the second straight season, the Yankees began with a four-series winning streak; their previous best five series victories came in 1926.
“You can’t take them off the board and they matter now as much as any time,” the manager in New York said.
