FIA announce Max Verstappen inspection as samples taken after

Formula 1 governing body, the FIA, has confirmed that Max Verstappen’s Red Bull passed all technical inspections following his victory at the 2025 Italian Grand Prix, ensuring the Dutchman officially retains his third race win of the season.

The Monza weekend produced a memorable moment for Verstappen, who surprised many in the paddock by reclaiming pole position on Saturday and then converting it into a dominant race victory on Sunday. The triumph marked his second win at the Italian Grand Prix this year and his third overall race victory of the season, reigniting momentum in what has been a competitive campaign. However, as is standard procedure for race winners, Verstappen’s car — the RB21 — was subjected to an in-depth FIA inspection to ensure full compliance with technical regulations.

Fuel and Oil Samples Collected

The FIA released its official Technical Delegate’s Report shortly after the race, confirming that samples of both fuel and engine oil were taken from Verstappen’s car. These samples underwent detailed analysis in line with the governing body’s strict checks, which are designed to prevent any potential breaches of Formula 1’s tightly controlled technical rules.

The report explained that a fuel sample was taken from car number 01 (Verstappen’s Red Bull). This sample was tested for density and analysed using gas chromatography, a technique that allows for precise identification of the chemical composition of the fuel. According to the FIA, the results confirmed that the fuel used during the Italian Grand Prix was identical to the specification previously approved for use by Red Bull Racing. Moreover, any variations in density between the samples taken post-race and the reference samples remained within the permitted tolerance levels outlined in the regulations.

Engine Oil Also Analysed

In addition to fuel, the FIA also took a sample of engine oil from Verstappen’s RB21. This was examined through FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy and viscometry, scientific methods used to assess the consistency and viscosity of the oil. The analyses concluded that the oil matched the approved reference samples submitted by the team earlier in the season. This effectively ruled out any suggestion of Red Bull using unapproved or performance-enhancing lubricants in the car during the Italian Grand Prix.

“The results of the FTIR analyses show that the sampled oils were consistent with reference engine oil samples which had been approved for use by the relevant competitors prior to the Competition,” the FIA statement noted.

Verstappen’s Win Fully Confirmed

With all technical checks passed successfully, Verstappen’s Italian Grand Prix win stands unchallenged, adding another milestone to his 2025 campaign. The confirmation was a relief for Red Bull, who have faced close scrutiny throughout the season from both rival teams and the FIA as Formula 1 continues its push for fairness and transparency in competition.

Verstappen’s victory at Monza not only highlighted his skill but also reinforced Red Bull’s ability to bounce back strongly after a challenging mid-season period. The team’s return to the top step of the podium underlined the strength of the RB21 package when everything comes together.

Context and Significance

Post-race inspections are an integral part of Formula 1, designed to safeguard the integrity of the sport by ensuring that teams do not exploit technical loopholes or introduce unapproved components. Fuel and oil checks are particularly important because any alterations in their composition could potentially deliver performance advantages — such as improved combustion efficiency, enhanced power delivery, or reduced wear and tear on the engine.

By confirming that Verstappen’s car complied fully with the rules, the FIA has closed the chapter on any potential controversy surrounding the Italian Grand Prix. It also reaffirms that the Dutchman’s 2025 campaign, though not as dominant as his previous championship-winning years, remains firmly on track as he continues to challenge for victories.

For Verstappen, the clearance means he can fully celebrate his achievement at Monza — one of Formula 1’s most historic circuits — without distraction. For Red Bull, it serves as reassurance that their processes and preparations remain compliant with the sport’s high standards, despite increased competitive pressures.

In conclusion, the FIA’s inspection has confirmed what fans saw on track: Verstappen’s Italian Grand Prix win was the result of talent, strategy, and performance, rather than any technical irregularities.
