FIA Confirm Verstappen’s Red Bull Passed Full Inspection After Italian GP Win

After powering to victory at the Italian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was put under the microscope by Formula 1’s governing body. The FIA confirmed that a series of detailed post-race inspections were carried out on the Dutchman’s car, including fuel and engine oil analysis, with all results returning fully compliant.

The reigning four-time world champion had stunned many in the paddock by bouncing back to pole position during qualifying at Monza on Saturday, before delivering a commanding performance to take his third race win of the 2025 season on Sunday. The triumph also marked his second Italian GP victory of the campaign, reaffirming his presence at the front after a turbulent run of form.

As is routine after grands prix, random and targeted checks are carried out on cars to ensure no team is gaining an illegal advantage. Following the Monza race, Verstappen’s RB21 was selected for sampling. According to the FIA’s official Technical Delegate’s Report, both a fuel sample and an engine oil sample were taken directly from his car for analysis.

The FIA confirmed that the fuel samples underwent a thorough examination. They were tested for density levels and then cross-checked through gas chromatography, a process that breaks down and identifies chemical components. The findings showed that Verstappen’s fuel matched the pre-approved specification used by his team and other competitors earlier in the season. Furthermore, the governing body noted that the density variations in the sample fell well within the permitted regulatory limits.

In addition to the fuel test, the FIA also analysed the engine oil. This procedure involved using FTIR spectroscopy — a technique that identifies molecular structures — alongside viscometry, which measures fluid thickness and performance characteristics. Once again, the samples collected from the Red Bull were consistent with the reference oils that had been approved for competition prior to the Italian GP.

With both checks returning satisfactory results, Verstappen’s car was cleared of any irregularities, confirming that his victory at Monza would stand without any complications.

The FIA’s post-race statement detailed the results clearly: “A fuel sample was taken from car number 01. The fuel samples have been checked for density and analysed by gas chromatography. The results of all the fuel analyses show that the fuels were the same as those which had been approved for use by the relevant competitors prior to the Competition. Further, the density change of the fuel samples taken today was within the permitted limits.”

It continued: “An engine oil sample was taken from car number 01. The engine oil samples have been analysed by FTIR spectroscopy and viscometry. The results of the FTIR analyses show that the sampled oils were consistent with reference engine oil samples which had been approved for use by the relevant competitors prior to the Competition.”

For Verstappen, the FIA’s clean bill of health ensures his Monza achievement remains untarnished. With three wins already secured this season, the Red Bull driver continues to push forward in his quest for a fifth championship crown.
