Martin Brundle in Awkward Mix-Up with Lewis Capaldi During Singapore Grand Prix Grid Walk

Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle found himself in an uncomfortable situation during his traditional grid walk at the Singapore Grand Prix, after a humorous case of mistaken identity involving global music star Lewis Capaldi.

Known for his bold and unpredictable celebrity interviews before races, Brundle once again made headlines — this time for approaching the wrong person on live television. While moving through the grid in search of famous faces, Brundle spotted someone he believed to be Capaldi and enthusiastically began an interview. However, it quickly became apparent that the man he was speaking to was not the chart-topping Scottish singer at all, but Capaldi’s brother.

The mix-up created an amusingly awkward moment as Brundle carried on speaking before the real Lewis Capaldi appeared behind him. The singer then interrupted the exchange to reveal that Brundle had been talking to his brother by mistake. The realization sparked laughter among the surrounding crew and fans watching at home, though the moment became even more uncomfortable when Brundle inadvertently turned his back on Capaldi just as the singer extended his hand for a friendly handshake.

Taking the snub in stride, Capaldi decided to play along with the blunder. He jokingly shook his own hand in front of the camera and laughed off the misunderstanding while Brundle, clearly embarrassed, gave him a pat on the back in apology. The clip quickly went viral online, drawing reactions from F1 fans and Capaldi’s followers alike.

Capaldi himself joined in on the fun, posting the video to X (formerly Twitter) during the race broadcast with a humorous caption:

“B****ed by Brundle.”

The light-hearted response won praise from fans for its good humour, as many called it one of the funniest grid walk moments of the season.

Brundle’s grid walks have long been a fan-favourite feature of Sky Sports’ Formula 1 coverage, with the veteran commentator often venturing through the pre-race grid to chat with drivers, team bosses, and celebrities. However, the unpredictable nature of these segments frequently leads to awkward or funny exchanges — and Singapore added another classic to the collection.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports F1 colleague Ted Kravitz also experienced his own case of mistaken identity during his Ted’s Notebook segment later that weekend. As Kravitz roamed the paddock following Saturday’s qualifying session, he was passed by Lando Norris’s entourage, which included Norris’s girlfriend Magui Corceiro and close friend Max Fewtrell, who is also a racing driver.

Spotting the pair, Kravitz cheerfully called out a greeting — but mistakenly thought Fewtrell was world-renowned Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, a friend of Max Verstappen and a regular guest at Formula 1 races.

Realizing his mistake mid-segment, Kravitz laughed it off and quickly corrected himself, though not without a noticeable blush. In fairness to the presenter, both Fewtrell and Garrix bear a striking resemblance, and Garrix was indeed present in Singapore that weekend, making the mix-up an easy one to make.

Fewtrell, much like Capaldi earlier in the day, took the incident with good humour, smiling and waving back as Kravitz carried on with his report.

The pair of humorous mishaps added some levity to the weekend’s coverage, showing once again that the unpredictable world of Formula 1 grid walks can lead to moments just as entertaining off the track as on it.
