Done deal: Bayern Munich have finally signed Aston villa head coach see…more….
For the first time, Unai Emery has given an explanation of his decision to join Aston Villa and leave Villarreal.
After agreeing to return to England, the former manager of Arsenal will formally begin work at Villa Park on November 1st, pending the completion of a work visa. Despite having won the Europa League in 2021 during his two years with the Yellow Submarines, he feels Villa presented too much of an opportunity to pass up.
“Here I have felt something of heart again, but the profession is within me,” he said at his farewell press conference in Spain. I felt that I had to approach this one differently, almost as a sports challenge.
After Villa fired manager Steven Gerrard last week, the team is currently 15th in the Premier League when Emery joins the team. After leading the team to a 4-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday, interim manager Aaron Danks will take over control for the team’s trip to Newcastle United on Saturday.
Last year, Emery turned down a transfer to St. James’ Park because he preferred to see Villarreal play in the Champions League. But the Spanish team’s contract was set to expire the following summer, and Villa was prepared to pay the buy-out amount, which was reportedly in the neighborhood of £5 million.
