Max VerstappenBreaking news: Max Verstappen CRASHES OUT of Aus….read  experienced a shocking setback during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, marking a disastrous start to the 2026 Formula One season for the Red Bull star. The dramatic incident occurred during the first qualifying session (Q1) at the famous Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, leaving fans and the Red Bull team stunned.
The reigning champion arrived in Australia with high expectations, as many anticipated a strong opening performance from both Verstappen and his team, Red Bull Racing. However, those expectations quickly turned into disappointment when the Dutch driver lost control of his car during a crucial moment in the session.
With only seven minutes remaining in Q1, Verstappen was pushing hard in an attempt to secure a competitive lap time that would comfortably take him into the next stage of qualifying. As he approached the first corner of the circuit, the driver applied the brakes while carrying significant speed. Unfortunately, the braking maneuver did not go as planned.
Almost immediately after braking, Verstappen’s car became unstable. The rear of the vehicle stepped out unexpectedly, causing the car to spin across the track. Despite his quick reflexes and experience, the situation developed too rapidly for him to regain control. The car slid helplessly toward the gravel trap located at the outside of the corner.
The spinning car eventually left the asphalt and entered the gravel, where it came to a halt. Although the impact was not extremely violent, the incident effectively ended Verstappen’s qualifying session. His car, the new RB22 developed for the 2026 season, suffered enough disruption to prevent him from continuing in the session.
The crash immediately brought out yellow flags on the circuit, forcing other drivers to slow down as track marshals assessed the situation. The Red Bull garage was left watching anxiously as replays of the incident were shown on screens around the paddock.
For Verstappen, the crash represented a rare mistake in a qualifying session. Known for his aggressive driving style and remarkable control under pressure, he is usually one of the most reliable drivers when it comes to delivering fast laps during qualifying. However, the conditions and the delicate balance of the car may have contributed to the unfortunate moment.
The incident also raised early concerns about the handling characteristics of Red Bull’s new challenger. The RB22 is the team’s latest machine designed to continue their dominance in Formula One, but the sudden loss of stability at the first corner will certainly prompt engineers to analyze data from the car to understand exactly what happened.
For fans at the circuit and viewers around the world, the crash added an unexpected twist to the first qualifying session of the new season. Many had expected Verstappen to comfortably progress into Q2 and possibly challenge for pole position later in the session.
Instead, the early elimination placed him at a significant disadvantage heading into the race. Starting from a lower grid position at Albert Park can make race strategy more complicated, particularly on a track where overtaking opportunities are limited.
Despite the setback, Verstappen and his team will now shift their focus toward preparing the car for race day. The Red Bull crew will work overnight to ensure the vehicle is fully repaired and optimized, giving their star driver the best possible chance to recover positions during the Grand Prix itself.
While qualifying ended in disappointment, Verstappen has built a reputation throughout his career for fighting back from difficult situations. The race at Albert Park will provide him with an opportunity to demonstrate that resilience once again as he attempts to turn a disastrous qualifying into a strong race result.
