Amadou Onana, a midfielder for Everton, was dismissed after Belgium’s victory over Austria, and will now serve a one-match suspension.

After a double by Dodi Lukebakio in a 3-2 victory, Domenico Tedesco’s team would hang on to secure qualifying to the European Championships in Germany next summer.

Before the half, Onana committed a cynical foul to halt Christoph Baumgartner’s counterattack, earning him a booking. With 12 minutes remaining, his mistimed challenge on RB Leipzig’s Xaver Schlager earned him his marching orders.

After Marcel Sabitzer cut the score to one with eight minutes remaining, Belgium withstood a late assault from Ralf Rangnick’s team. The 22-year-old will no longer play in Tuesday’s Euro 2024 qualifying match in Brussels against Sweden.
