THE PHILADELPHI 76ER HEAD COACH RECEIVES A FIRING NOTES SOME MINUTES AGO AFTER….

A highly entertaining NBA Finals matchup is underway, but the wheels of commerce and litigation stop for no event. As such, Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse is being sued by his former agent, Warren LeGarie, who claims Nurse breached their representation contract by not paying LeGarie any commission on Nurse’s current contract.

This isn’t the type of postseason drama we’re used to in Raptorland!

Nurse parted ways with LeGarie in the spring of 2020; his contract extension, which runs through the 2023-24 seasons, was announced in September of 2020. LeGarie claims he negotiated said extension, and thus deserves to be paid for said negotiation.

LeGarie’s name is well known amongst NBA followers; he represents several NBA coaches and executives, and is one of the founders behind the NBA’s Las Vegas summer league.

Basically this lawsuit is about one millionaire telling another millionaire “you owe me money,” which, lets be honest, is never in good taste, and is especially distasteful as we (hopefully) emerge from a pandemic in which many, many people and small businesses suffered severe economic hardship.

Even just from a Raptors fandom perspective, we have more important things to worry about right now. The 2021 NBA Draft is just a few weeks away! The Raptors have the fourth overall pick! That’s huge. Meanwhile, two franchise cornerstones — Masai Ujiri and Kyle Lowry — are free agents. That’s also huuuge.

This lawsuit is the opposite of huge. And the outcome? Either millionaire Nick Nurse is a few bucks poorer, or millionaire Warren LeGarie makes a sad face about not being a few bucks richer.

So ultimately: let’s file this away under “Yep, that shit happened,” and turn our brains to more interesting and important things.
