Leny Yoro out for… MONTHS and… six weeks as Manchester United are hit by two huge…
Manchester United have suffered significant injury setbacks with new £59 million signing Leny Yoro out for three months and Rasmus Hojlund sidelined for six weeks. Both players sustained injuries during the first half of United’s loss to Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday. Yoro fractured a metatarsal in his left foot, while Hojlund incurred a hamstring strain.
This development is a considerable blow for manager Erik ten Hag as the new season approaches. He is expected to rely on new £36.5 million signing Joshua Zirkzee to fill in for Hojlund up front and may intensify efforts to recruit another centre-back to replace Yoro.
The 18-year-old Yoro, who joined United from Lille just two weeks ago, was playing his second game for the club when he got injured after half an hour and had to leave the field immediately after receiving treatment. Concerns about the severity of his injury rose when he was seen on crutches with a protective boot on his left foot three days later.
United confirmed on Wednesday that Yoro will be out for three months, though he will remain with the team on their US tour and will be re-evaluated when they return to Manchester next week.
With Lisandro Martinez still not back in training after representing Argentina in the Copa America, Ten Hag may have to choose between Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof for central defense. Lindelof’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain, but he might now stay to provide cover.
United have been trying to sign another centre-back this summer, having held discussions with Bayern Munich regarding Matthijs de Ligt and having an improved £50 million bid for Jarrad Branthwaite rejected by Everton.
These injuries recall last summer’s tour in the US, where United lost Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo to injuries that kept them out of action until November and December, respectively.
