Although there were no new signings among their outfield players, Kasper Schmeichel made a comfortable return to Scottish football.

From the outset, Celtic dominated against last season’s fourth-place finishers.

Kilmarnock, who previously posed significant challenges to Celtic, played defensively with a 5-4-1 formation and rarely ventured out of their own half.

Celtic’s relentless pressure down the flanks paid off when Reo Hatate scored the first goal at the 17-minute mark.

Liam Scales doubled the lead five minutes before halftime with a well-placed header from a corner.

In the second half, Nicolas Kuhn added a third goal just after the hour with a deflected shot from the right wing.

Despite a missed penalty opportunity, Tony Ralston sealed the victory with a fourth goal from a tight angle in the final minute.
