There were emotional scenes as Luis Díaz was reunited with his father

The famous Colombian football player Luis Díaz was reunited with his father, Luis Manuel Díaz, who was taken prisoner by rebels and held for a period of twelve days.

After the abduction ordeal, the Liverpool striker and his father shed tears as they gave one other their first hug.

The National Liberation Army (ELN) kidnapping of Luis Manuel Díaz shocked people both domestically and internationally.

For ransom, the ELN claimed to have abducted the 58-year-old and his spouse.

As police drew closer, the mob promptly freed his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, but they also took the amateur football coach into the neighboring highlands at gunpoint.

The popular coach’s kidnapping was referred to as a “mistake” by the ELN chief, who also maintained that kidnappings carried out for ransom do not violate the truce that the group agreed to earlier this year.

Luis Manuel Díaz was released by the guerilla group to representatives of the Catholic Church and the United Nations last Thursday.

He was reunited with his wife and other family members later that day, but he hadn’t been able to give his football-star kid a hug until today.

In preparation for Colombia’s World Cup qualifying match against Brazil on Friday, Luis Díaz has taken a plane to train with the national team.

While his father was being held captive by the rebels, the player was absent from two Liverpool games; nonetheless, on November 5, he started the English Premier League encounter against Luton off the bench.

Following his score in stoppage time, he lifted up his Liverpool shirt to reveal a T-shirt with the words “freedom for papa” on it underneath.
