After West Ham’s victory, Everton needs a great Burnley effort and outcome.

Everton will now meet Sean Dyche’s previous team Burnley tomorrow night in the Carabao Cup’s next round after winning a tight 1-0 victory against West Ham on Sunday.

The Toffees were focused, diligent, and unwavering in defense at the London Stadium until Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a goal that handed the visitors an advantage they would never let up.

Everton performed a legendary away effort, one that we have grown accustomed to under Dyche’s leadership.

This season, the Blues have performed much better away from home. They have triumphed at Brentford, Aston Villa, and now West Ham in addition to drawing a draw with Sheffield United.

Naturally, the Villa victory advanced the Toffees to tomorrow’s Carabao Cup final round matchup with Burnley.

However, Goodison Park, the site of tomorrow’s game, is where Everton has suffered the most this season, winning only once against Bournemouth and losing to Arsenal, Fulham, Wolves, and Luton Town.

Although Dyche’s strategies and style of play are ideal for away games, when the Blues are more likely to give up the ball and have to play defense for extended stretches of time, they are not nearly as effective when used at home, where Dyche’s squad is under pressure to win.

The manager’s task is to therefore strike a balance between the team’s supporters’ demands for a more offensive demeanor and the ongoing necessity for a firmly composed and organized squad.

The Carabao Cup is a bit of a freebie for many Premier League teams, allowing them to try out new players and strategies.

However, for Everton the competition represents basically the only albeit still very slim chance of making a final let alone winning a trophy. It also represents a chance for Dyche’s side to get some momentum going too and for him to look again at some of his fringe players, particularly attacking individuals such as Arnaut Danjuma and Beto. The Portuguese striker has fallen down the pecking order since Calvert-Lewin’s return to full fitness, and didn’t even get on late against West Ham with the manager preferring to give Youssef Chermiti a run out.

Dyche will probably be eager to seek revenge on his old employers, so if Everton can get off to a strong start and commit to the game, they should be able to score early goals and end the tie very swiftly.
