Amidst a new dispute with Celtic, Brendan Rodgers criticises Rangers.

When it comes to the absence of away supporters at Old Firm derbies, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers seems to be blaming Rangers alone. On August 16, after it was revealed that the season’s first two derbies will take place without away fans, Sky Sports posted his “passionate” response on their X account.

This will remain the standard for the first round of matches, as it has for the previous few years.

Celtic has been working on it for a few months, according to Rodgers. That is something I am aware of. It’s been a labour of love. But only if both parties uphold the agreement can you do that.

Celtic had nothing to do with all of this. It is not a Rangers-Celtic issue. It’s a Rangers issue.

Rodgers oversimplifies a complicated problem when he says that the lack of away fans at Old Firm derbies is only a “Rangers thing.” Rodgers emphasises Celtic’s attempts to accommodate away fans, but in practice, everyone must take responsibility for one another.

Both clubs must agree on and implement safety measures, ticket allocations and logistical arrangements.

Rodgers may claim otherwise, but Celtic is involved in the talks that decide fan distribution, so their involvement cannot be entirely ignored.

Furthermore, Celtic’s direct involvement in the problem is demonstrated by their decision to refuse tickets for Gers fans at prior games, citing safety concerns or other reasons.
