An Everton player had guaranteed a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.

With a 3-1 victory over Italy this evening at Wembley, Gareth Southgate’s team secured their spot in the European Championship Finals for next summer. Jordan Pickford was back in goal for England.

During the friendly match against Australia, the Everton goalkeeper gave way to Crystal Palace stopper Sam Johnstone. He was not used as a substitute last Friday, but he started the match against the Italians as usual.

After 25 minutes, Gianluca Scamacca, a former West Ham striker, scored Italy’s first real chance, putting England down.

But just before the half, Harry Kane tied the score after Jude Bellingham was fouled in the box and the Bayern Munich striker converted the penalty.

With 13 minutes remaining, Southgate’s team outperformed themselves in the first half and took the lead 2-1 with to goals from Marcus Rashford and Kane after Bellingham’s run set them up.

With a 3-1 victory in Malta, Vitalii Mykolenko and Ukraine gave themselves a fantastic chance to join England, and the victory also secures England’s qualifying for the tournament in Germany in 2024.

When the two countries play on November 20, it may come down to who advances from Group C between Italy and Ukraine.

Youssef Chermiti, a striker for the Blues, scored a goal for Poland U20s in a 2-1 victory over England.
