To cap off a dismal week for Daniel Farke’s

club at the beginning of the new season, Leeds United appears poised to miss out on a £9 million transfer for Sammie Szmodics.

Sammie Szmodics, who is linked to Leeds United, is allegedly close to signing a contract with Ipswich Town.

It is understood by LeedsLive that Leeds United’s purported interest in Sammie Szmodics and Harrison Burrows is unfounded. Though they had fantastic seasons with their clubs, the striker and left-back are creating a lot of summertime talk. However, Elland Road isn’t currently targeting either player for a transfer.

Szmodics enters this transfer window fresh off a season that defined his career with Blackburn Rovers. Despite playing for a team in the bottom six, the 28-year-old took home the Championship’s Golden Boot after scoring 27 goals in 44 games, six goals ahead of second place.

Szmodics naturally wants to play at the best level possible, and Blackburn understandably wants to lock up the best deal this summer. Elland Road insiders feel that Leeds might be used as leverage to force Suffolk to make a larger offer after Ipswich Town’s approach was rejected this week.

Today, West Yorkshire has been incorrectly associated with many names than just the striker. The transfer of Burrows from Peterborough United to Sheffield United in this window has long been rumoured, but a radio appearance by Darragh MacAnthony has raised eyebrows.

Following the suggestion that the Blades were enjoying success this summer, the Posh chairman revealed that he had received multiple proposals from Championship teams for Burrows. It made his hosts in the studio laugh when MacAnthony replied “yes” but also pointed out Leeds.
