Aston Villa officially announce Unai Emery as their new manager shortly after the dismissal of Steven Gerrard.

Aston Villa has confirmed Unai Emery as their new head coach following the dismissal of Steven Gerrard last Friday (AEDT).

Emery, formerly with Arsenal, leaves Villarreal after guiding them to the Champions League semi-final last season and securing victory in the Europa League final against Manchester United the previous year.

Although his official start date at Villa is November 1, he will assume control of the club before the World Cup break.

In their announcement, Villa stated: “Aston Villa is thrilled to introduce Unai Emery as the club’s new Head Coach. Unai arrives from Villarreal, where he steered them to Europa League triumph by defeating Manchester United in the final in 2021 and reached the Champions League semi-finals last season.

“A vastly experienced manager with over 900 matches under his belt, Unai has previously managed in the Premier League during his tenure with Arsenal, leading the Gunners to a Europa League final.

“He has also achieved significant success at Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain. In Seville, he clinched three consecutive Europa League titles between 2013 and 2016, followed by a Ligue 1 championship in France, along with two French Cups, two French League Cups, and two Trophée des Champions.”
