BAD STATEMENT: West Ham supporters who left at half-time told they are…..
Chris Sutton has claimed West Ham fans who left the London Stadium midway through their brutal 6-0 defeat to Arsenal are not “true fans”.
The Hammers were thumped by Mikel Arteta ’s men on Sunday. Bukayo Saka scored twice, while Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and former West Ham star Declan Rice all got on the scoresheet.
Home supporters were spotted leaving at half-time, with the hosts already 4-0 down. Ex-Premier League forward Sutton has torn into those who left and claimed that they are not genuine fans.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “There were hundreds and thousands who left the stadium at half-time, the team were 4-0 down. That’s not a true fan, is it?
“I mean you’re not a true football fan! You’ve got to support your team through thick and thin, get behind the team. You can’t leave at half-time and then say ‘I’m a Hammer’!
“You’re not a hammer if you leave at half-time and go home. I’m not having that. It’s alright signing when you’re winning, isn’t it? It’s okay doing that, isn’t it?”
Despite Sutton’s criticism, West Ham boss David Moyes claimed he understood why fans left the ground. However, he has issued a rallying call for supporters to stick with the Hammers after the heroics they produced in both the Premier League and Europa Conference League over recent seasons.
