Ajax and Olympique Marseille have agreed on the direct transfer of goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli. Rulli’s contract with Ajax was originally set to run until June 30, 2026.
Born on May 20, 1992, in La Plata, Argentina, Rulli joined Ajax in January 2023 from Spanish club Villarreal. He made his debut for Ajax’s first team on January 11, 2023, in a Dutch Cup match against FC Den Bosch, which Ajax won 2-0. Over the course of his time with the club, Rulli appeared in 32 official matches for the first team.
Alex Kroes, a representative from Ajax, commented on the transfer, noting that Rulli suffered an injury halfway through last season, which led to him losing his starting position in the team. Although Rulli has since recovered and was part of the Argentine team during the Olympics, he rejoined Ajax later than his teammates. Facing significant competition for the starting goalkeeper position at Ajax, Rulli expressed a desire to move on, a wish that the club understood and respected. Kroes wished Rulli the best of luck as he continues his career in Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille.
